What is SpiritPal for?
SpiritPal is an app for asking questions about Christianity, reading the Bible and reflecting on personal concerns. You can describe a problem in your own words or start with topics such as anxiety, relationships, forgiveness and prayer. Conversation responses can include a Christian explanation, a relevant verse, a prayer and a suggestion for the day.
The guide screen contains the daily verse and conversation options. The rhythm section holds ongoing plans, saved verses and the journal, so you can return to a plan or text you saved earlier. The app supports multiple languages.
Daily plans and notes
Plans are divided into days, with reading, reflection, prayer and an activity for each day. You can follow an ongoing plan, complete the current step and add an evening review. Personal notes are kept in the journal.
The weekly view distinguishes a started session, a completed step and an evening review. If a conversation request fails, the app still records that a session was started that day. Session days and saved journal entries are stored separately so a service failure does not make the day appear unused.
Bible translations and cached content
Interface text and Bible translations are managed separately. Buttons and descriptions use localisation files. Bible texts belong to a catalogue that records the translation, its licence and whether it is enabled. Only enabled translations with verified licences are offered to readers.
Bible texts are downloaded as compressed bundles from Cloudflare R2. Supabase holds their catalogue information. Hive caches downloaded chapters and bundles on the device, allowing the app to reuse content when it is opened again.
Syncing saved verses
The app is built with Flutter, with Riverpod managing screen state. Supabase handles sign-in, account data and server functions. Favourite verses can be stored on the device and synced with an account after sign-in. Adding or removing a verse updates the interface immediately.
A verse removed offline may still exist on the server and could return during the next sync. To prevent this, pending deletions are saved on the device and sent when a connection is available. If the same verse is added to favourites again, its pending deletion is cancelled.
How the conversation feature works
Conversation responses are generated by an AI model. The app sends a request to a server function; the model provider’s key is not stored on the phone. Access checks and response handling run on the server. The app also includes content reporting and privacy controls.
Plan progress, conversation sessions, journal entries and favourites are managed as separate records. A failed conversation request, for example, does not remove saved verses or the current plan. The images on this page show example presentation content, not private journal entries or user conversations.
